Progressive Excellence Program® Categories
Excellence Canada offers six (6) different categories for which your organization may choose to be certified under the Progressive Excellence Program®.
The PEP Categories are:
- Excellence, Innovation and Wellness (formerly Integrated Quality and Healthy Workplace®)
- Quality (Business/Private Sector)
- Quality (Public Sector)
- Healthy Workplace®
- Education (K to 12)
- Mental Health at Work®
Excellence, Innovation and Wellness
Application of the Standards for effective practices that are contained in the Excellence, Innovation and Wellness Framework is driven by a focus on quality, innovation and wellness. These three factors have a direct impact on the overall effectiveness of an organization. Other factors i.e., Corporate Social Responsibility, including Energy Management, Environmental Sustainability, Enterprise Risk Management as well as Mental Health are also embedded throughout this Standard.

Quality (Business/Private Sector)
The Progressive Excellence Program® Framework for Business Excellence is used by numerous organizations as a management model for organizational excellence. The Framework, based on Principles of Excellence, is a comprehensive set of Criteria for achieving business results. The use of this approach will help you to reduce rework, waste and costs while improving productivity and competitiveness.

The Progressive Excellence Program® Quality Criteria for the Public Sector is a comprehensive and practical framework for improvement and achieving effective citizen/client-focused service or product delivery. The Criteria serves as a framework for effective public service organizations and agencies at all levels, including government departments, school boards, police forces, etc… By employing the Quality Criteria for the Public Sector your organization will be setting the standard for world-class quality in public service.

Healthy Workplace®
The Progressive Excellence Program® Healthy Workplace® Criteria addresses a broad-based approach to health and wellness issues in the workplace. The Criteria brings together environmental, physical, mental, occupational health and safety, psychological health and social issues into a strategic model that helps organizations set goals and manage their wellness programs.

Education (K to 12)
The Canadian Excellence in Education Program serves as a template for schools to continually strive for excellence and gain recognition for their accomplishments in student and school achievements. The program is a model for organizational change and provides a comprehensive and practical approach for all stakeholders. It captures not just quantitative data but the more important qualitative results that appropriately reflect the progress of achievement on the journey to excellence. Schools will learn to use assessment to measure their progress and to develop the necessary skills to build a focused approach to school improvement. This program fits well with the various provincial improvement strategies across Canada.

Mental Health at Work®
Excellence Canada’s program for Mental Health at Work® serves as a roadmap for organizations in any sector that wish to encourage, support and implement exemplary mental health-related programs in the workplace. The Mental Health at Work® program and award was developed by Excellence Canada in association with mental health and work safety professionals from across Canada.
